Devastating flooding closes motorway as deluge destroys 50 homes
A motorway has been closed and multiple cars have been left stranded as major flooding hits the UK. At least 14 flood warnings are in place across England, mainly hitting the south, south west and area around the River Severn. There are also warnings for the areas around Tewkesbury, Worcester, Southampton, Crawley, Weymouth, Yeovil and Exeter. Up to 50 homes have been hit by the rapidly rising water. The Met Office yellow warning which came into effect at 2pm on Wednesday, is set to last until noon on Friday. The A30 in Cornwall has been closed due to heavy flooding and fallen trees, tailbacks are stretching as far as seven miles from the closed stretch at Hayle.
