Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has responded to recent rumours involving Tottenham and potential interest in signing Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that he’s not aware of Spurs having any concrete contacts over signing Rabiot, though he is aware that they are likely to look for a signing in midfield in the summer.

Rabiot’s uncertain future at Juventus will surely make him a tempting option for Tottenham and any other clubs also eyeing a midfielder, but it seems there’s nothing looking likely to be decided now.

On top of that, Juve may have the edge here as it seems Rabiot will give his current club the priority in terms of a possible new deal, according to Romano.

Discussing the recent Rabiot and Spurs links, Romano said: “People at Spurs are monitoring midfielders in general and Adrien Rabiot could be big opportunity for many clubs. Still, I’m not aware of concrete contacts between Tottenham and Rabiot for now.”

He added: “From what I heard, Rabiot will also give priority to talks with Juventus over a new deal before deciding his future.”

Rabiot is a fine player and it would certainly be intriguing to see what he could do in the Premier League at some point in the future.

The France international signed a one-year contract extension with Juventus last summer, so he could be a free agent in a few months, but it might also be that he’s settled in Turin and prepared to stay.

THFC fans will no doubt want to keep a close eye on this, but there should also be numerous other options for that position if it ends up being impossible to get a deal done for Rabiot this summer.
