After Life viewers heartbroken as fanfavourites missing from season 3 Sorely missed
AFTER LIFE fans have already binged through the third and final season of Ricky Gervais' hard-hitting comedy-drama - but many have been left rather disappointed to not see some of the show's best-loved characters.

Ricky Gervais’ Tony returned to Netflix on Friday in the third and final season of After Life. With just six episodes making up the last run of the show, many fans have already made their way to the end after expecting to see their favourite Tambury residents back in action. However, despite appearing in every episode of the first two seasons, the likes of Roxy (played by Roisin Conaty), Sandy (Mandeep Dhillon) and the Psychiatrist (Paul Kaye) failed to pop up in the last outing - and fans aren’t happy.

While she may not have appeared on-screen in After Life season three, Roxy’s impact was still felt throughout thanks to her postman boyfriend Pat (Joe Wilkinson).

In each episode, Pat gave Tony (Ricky Gervais) an update on their failing romance as he struggled to come to terms with her career as a sex worker.

Sandy, on the other hand, was replaced in Tony’s office by Coleen (Kath Hughes) without an explanation for her exit.

And the Psychiatrist wasn’t on hand for any other sessions with Tony or brother-in-law Matt (Tom Basden), again with no explanation - although his righthand men Ratty (Andrew Brooke) and The N***e (Tom Bennett) did pop up once more.

Gervais has spoken out about why season three went ahead without these much-loved characters, however.

“Mandeep couldn't do it because she was filming, so I'd sort of written her bit and I had time to change them,” he began to Digital Spy.

He added: “With Roxy we thought there wasn't quite the story there.

“It's you know, it's a mutual decision, I didn't write them out.”

However, there were some fans who felt their omission let season three down in comparison with its predecessors.

Paul Sampson quizzed: “Why no, Roxy? Or even Sandy, sorry After Life series 3 was just nowhere near as good as the first two without those actresses.”

And @buns_gummy argued: “SPOILERS Afterlife season 3. What a disappointing fizzle to such a good show. Hardly any Brandy or Anne. Zero Roxy, Sandy, and George. More screen time to the worst and cringest characters. I didn't get emotional once in 6 hrs. A different kind of heartbreaking.”

While @starryaisling said: “Roisin not being in after life 3 when roxy literally carried the whole show even with her 10 second screen time in s1 and 2.” (Sic)
