The real-life soap couple became parents over Christmas but are yet to reveal the baby's gender or name

Emmerdale actress Amy Walsh and EastEnders actor Toby-Alexander Smith have announced the birth of their first baby.

The soap stars welcomed their newborn during the festive period and shared the news exclusively with OK!.

The 34-year-old actress, who plays Tracy Metcalfe in the ITV soap and is the sister of Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh, announced she was pregnant in September 2021.

Amy and Toby, who is best known as murderer Grey in EastEnders, went public with their relationship last Christmas 2020 when they were pictured on the red carpet at the opening night of A Christmas Carol in London.

The pair met in the audience of Strictly Come Dancing back in 2019 when Amy was supporting Emmerdale co-star Kelvin Fletcher and Toby was cheering on co-star Emma Barton.

Sharing their first family photo, Emmerdale star Amy told OK!: "Well…it’s been a busy week! Hope you all had a good one. Happy New Year from the three of us."

The first family snap shows Amy and Toby pushing a pram whilst gazing at their baby.

Prior to giving birth, Amy told OK that she felt she was 'made' to be a mum.

"I feel weirdly excited about it," the actress admitted.

"I’m sure everyone who’s been through it reading this will laugh but it’s something I’ve always wanted to experience.

"I’ve always felt I was made to do it. I’m very aware of how scary it could be so I know it won’t be a bed of roses, but what I’m most looking forward to is going through that journey with Toby."

The Emmerdale star then said that her and EastEnders' Toby are a "really good team."

"I know we’ll thrive off whatever is thrown our way. We’re just starting our online antenatal classes. I don’t have a plan. It’s not in my nature to plan and any sort of plan would be setting me up for disappointment."

Although the soap stars are yet to reveal the gender of their child, Amy previously said the couple have some names in mind for the newborn.

"We have one for each which we were set on before we were even pregnant," she said.

"They’re from our lockdown walks when we were talking about our baby names.

"We’ve even called the bump those names, one day the girl name, the next the boy name, but then recently I’ve been like, 'I feel a bit bored of these names' So we’re starting to discuss them again."
