Inside Amy Walsh and Toby Alexander-Smith’s incredible love story after they met at Strictly Come Dancing...
THEY have just announced they are expecting their first child together, but Amy Walsh and Toby Alexander- Smith have shared very little of their lives with fans.
The soap power couple kept their romance underwraps for some time before going public - and have only now opened up about their perfect love story.
Amy, 34, who is best known to Emmerdale viewers as Tracy Metcalfe, revealed the couple actually met in the audience of Strictly in 2019.
They were sat together in the front row - but cheering on different people.
Toby was there to support Honey Mitchell co-star Emma Barton while Amy was there for Kelvin Fletcher, who went on to win the series that year.
The couple believe it was fate that brought them together, as she explains to OK! Magazine.
“That’s where we met,” she said. “The twists of fate that into play to make us meet are crazy. Jamie Laing was supposed to be in it that year but he broke his ankle so Kelvin Fletcher replaced him, and Toby wasn’t even supposed to be in the audience that week.”
It seems it was pretty much love at first sight for Amy and it wasn’t long until she was joking about marrying the 30-year-old EastEnders actor who plays Albert Square psycho Gray Atkins.
She said: “After the show someone sent me a screenshot of us in the audience and I sent it to my best friend and joked “me and my future husband,” just thinking it was going to be a date. But after our first date I was like “this is it!”.”
The couple wound up pressing fast-forward on their relationship because of lockdown.
They decided to isolate together, moving in after just four months when the government told everyone - including soap stars - to stay at home.
The pair have described that time together as the “best in their lives” and it helped them realise what they truly meant to each other.
The Sun revealed the pair had become a couple in December, when they turned up at a theatre premiere together.
The new couple looked very cosy as they made their first public appearance on the red carpet at A Christmas Carol in London last year.
The couple revealed their happy baby news today, with Amy saying: “We're so excited. It feels as though the way everything happened was meant to be.”
