Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham coaching staff to be boosted by two ...
Ange Postecoglou is set to add to his Tottenham coaching staff ahead of the 2024/25 season with the appointment of Nick Montgomery and Sergio Raimundo to the club's ranks. At the beginning of June it was confirmed that Chris Davies would leave his role as senior assistant coach to take on the managerial hotseat at League One side Birmingham City.
Needing to add to his backroom team for the new season, Postecoglou will now be joined at Tottenham by Montgomery and Raimundo, as first reported by FTBL in Australia. Montgomery was last in charge of Scottish side Hibs but was sacked in May, with Raimundo assistant to the former Sheffield United midfielder.
Neither Montgomery or Raimundo are expected to directly replace Davies at Tottenham. Montgomery is someone Postecoglou is well aware of following the 42-year-old's time in Australia. After his spell at Sheffield United came to an end in 2012, Montgomery headed for Australia to link up with Central Coast Mariners.
Following his retirement as a player after time with Wollongong Wolves, the former Scotland Under-21s international re-joined Central Coast Mariners as assistant coach before later becoming head coach in July 2021. It proved to be a successful time in the dugout for the Yorkshireman as he led Mariners to the A-League Championship in 2023.
Coming to the attention of Hibs in the process, Montgomery took on the hotseat in September 2023 but he was sacked back in May after they finished the season in eighth. Postecoglou was quizzed in September about Montgomery becoming Hibs coach and he was full of praise for his counterpart.
"Nick has done brilliantly in Australia," he explained. "He did a fantastic job at a club that it is fair to say in Australia is not considered one of the big ones and won the whole thing last year. He has done it in a great way where he has developed young players and great he gets the opportunity.

"I am glad people are looking beyond the obvious in terms of candidates whether they are at their doorstep or on the other side of the world. I have no doubt he will do well.
"I think Hibs is a great club. I remember from being up there it is a big club. When you play against them, you feel like it is a big club and there is an opportunity there to get them into a decent position in the Premiership and European football. I am sure Nick will do that so pleased for him."
It won't be long at all until Montgomery and Raimundo get to work with Postecoglou and the Tottenham squad for the first time as Spurs' first team players are expected to start filtering back to the club's Hotspur Way training base for pre-season work from Saturday, July 6. Spurs' first friendly of the summer comes against Hearts, thus seeing Montgomery make an immediate return to Edinburgh as he comes up against Hibs' city rivals.
