After quitting Countdown, Anne Robinson has revealed that she wouldn’t mind co-hosting Match Of The Day with Gary Lineker.

It was announced on Monday that the former Weakest Link host had departed the Channel 4 letters and numbers game show after just one year, with her last episodes set to air in the summer.

Explaining her reason for her departure, Anne said: ‘I have grandchildren, a large garden and a home in New York, all deserving more of my attention.’

However, the 77-year-old isn’t necessarily ruling out television appearances for good.

‘I quite fancy a job share with Gary Lineker on Match of the Day,’ Anne admitted.

‘I mean, who needs a monopoly of blokes mansplaining football on a Saturday afternoon?’

But don’t expect to see Anne on a reality television anytime soon.

‘I have learned a new lesson which is saying “no”,’ she continued to Daily Mail.

‘I’m not going on Strictly, I’m not going to the jungle [for I’m A Celebrity], I’m not doing Pointless and I’m not doing MasterChef.

Anne followed in the footsteps of Richard Whiteley, Des Lynam, Des O’Connor, Jeff Stelling and Nick Hewer as the presenter of Countdown, which launched in 1982.

She joined the daytime show last year alongside mathematician Rachel Riley and lexicographer Susie Dent, with her first instalment broadcasting on June 28.

More: Gary Lineker

In November 2021, Rachel dismissed reports of a ‘feud’ between her and co-star Anne, telling ITV’s Lorraine: ‘You know not to believe tabloids. I think it is just you have got some women there now so they want to make something up.

‘I have seen all the headlines of the feuds escalating. I have been on maternity leave for about six to eight weeks or something.’
