Shopper felt like a fool after picking up Asda Smart Price haul for just 25

The shopper is now reconsidering her shopping habits for the future after dipping into the budget range.

The cost of living crisis has meant that many of us are seeking ways to save money wherever we can.

Fuel has gone through the roof, while energy prices surged by a whopping 54 per cent earlier this month.

And these appear to be having a knock on effect on the cost of items we pick up in the supermarket aisles after a big shop.

This has left many people forgo luxury and branded items for the cheaper version.

One shopper was left stunned and admitted that she ‘felt like a fool’ after digging deeper into Asda’s Smart Price range.

Manchester Evening News journalist Emma Gill was able to score a massive shop for just over £25.

The haul included 1kg of rice (45p), 15 eggs (£1.18), 500g pack of pasta (29p) and tuna at 59p per tin.

She was also able to add potatoes, carrots, chicken breasts, bread , bacon and stock among her shop.

And her dip into the Asda Smart Price range has made her reassess her shopping habits for the future.

A shopper admitted that she was left ‘feeling like a fool’ after swapping her usual luxury items for Asda’s Smart Price range.

She wrote: “There are plenty more products where savings can be made, if you’re willing to sacrifice your fancy labels.

“Do you really care that much about your brand of loo roll or cleaner to splash out on something that’s quite literally going down the toilet?

“My haul of products from Asda’s budget range cost me just over £25 and I’ll be honest, it made me feel a bit of a fool.

“A fool for poo-pooing these budget brands for so many years without considering which items I could so easily swap into my weekly shop without sacrificing quality or taste.

“From now on, it’ll be 30p toilet cleaner going down the pan and not my hard earned cash. It’s all about playing it smart.”
