A nervous moment for Head four minutes before lunch as he inside-edges Nauman perilously close to his stumps.
Since returning to the Australian Test line-up in January, Khawaja’s run of form has been quite remarkable: 137, 101*, 6, 11, 97 and 151* in this innings
Khawaja tickles Hasan Ali down to fine leg for a single and with that, he reaches 150 for just the third time in his Test career.
The 35-year-old reaches his milestone after facing 322 balls and hitting 15 fours as well as one six.
Khawaja becomes the third Australian opener to score 150 against Pakistan.
And with the next ball, Head cuts Ali beautifully for four to the deep point boundary.
Four balls later, Head drops to one knee and late-cuts Ali again for another four. Sensational shot. He moves to 13 and Australia are 4-326 after 112 overs.
The frustration of not being able to dismiss a nightwatchman the morning after is almost unrivalled in cricket.
Lyon is a capable batsman whose career average has fluctuated, as the below graph shows. It dropped to 7.85 in his first year in 2011, got as high as 17.11 in 2014 but has evened out at about 12 since then. He certainly did his job today.
Khawaja chops Sajid backward of square superbly and picks up three more runs to move to 146 - his third-highest Test score.
Head gets off the mark in fine style, cutting a short, wide Faheem delivery in front of point for a beautiful four from his third ball faced.
Pakistan finally remove Lyon after Faheem bowls the nightwatchman for 38.
Faheem (2-42) tempts Lyon into a leg drive but the Aussie spinner miscues, and the ball ricochets off Lyon’s leg pad and into middle stump.
That brings an entertaining innings to an end which included five boundaries. Lyon’s maiden Test fifty continues to elude him.
Australia are now 4-304 and Head is the new man at the crease, joining Khawaja (141 not out).
This is becoming a huge problem for Pakistan now.
At drinks, the Aussies move to 3-301 from 103 overs, while Lyon (37) and Khawaja (139) have now put on 51 runs for the fourth wicket.
A maiden Test fifty is well within Lyon’s sights. And then, who knows... ?
Lyon gets another reprieve on 31 after lobbing a slower delivery back up to Faheem who gets his left hand to it but can’t grasp it and drops a caught-and-bowled opportunity.
With the next ball, Lyon rubs salt in the wound by delicately late-cutting Faheem through the gap beautifully for his fifth four to move to 36.
Faheem squares up Khawaja with a ball that angles in and seams away, and finds the Aussie opener’s outside edge.
But Khawaja’s soft hands keep the ball down and it races away to the boundary between slip and gully.
The tourists are now 3-293 in the 100th over. Khawaja moves to 138 and Lyon is on 30.
