After Rottach-Egern rout, Bayern Munich's Josip Stanišić addresses ...
Last summer, Bayern Munich defender Josip Stanišić was the odd-man out of Thomas Tuchel’s rotation and was shipped away to Bayer Leverkusen where all he did was be a key contributor on a team that nearly pulled off a perfect season.
The move would prove to be great for the player, but awful for the club as Bayern Munich desperately needed a versatile and dependable defender capable of playing across the back line.
Now, though, Stanišić is back with Bayern Munich, but does not have a clear indication of what the future might hold for him under new coach Vincent Kompany. When asked about where he would be playing, Stanišić said right-back was the position.
“Most likely right-back, but it always depends on what the coach is planning tactically. We haven’t talked about it specifically yet,” Stanišić told Abendzeitung’s Maximilian Koch.
Stanišić’s versatility could be something Kompany toys with. After a solid campaign with Die Werkself, the Croatian defender needs to prove he can be “the man” in Bavaria, where the lights shine a little brighter than they do at the BayArena.
