Bristol City vs Blackburn live: Updates from Ashton Gate
Bristol City cruised past Blackburn Rovers as a catalogue of Rovers errors and swift Robins finishing saw City sail to a 5-0 victory.
A brace each from Tommy Conway and Nakhi Wells as well as a goal from Anis Mehmeti made sure the hosts comfortably picked up the three points at Ashton Gate.
Conway opened the scoring on 24 minutes as he pounced on an error from Rovers skipper Dominic Hyam and swept home at the near post.
He doubled his tally and City’s lead eight minutes later as Hyam brought down Sykes, after Callum Brittain’s miskick saw him through on goal, to concede a penalty which Conway dispatched with ease.
The second period started slowly as both sides were starved of chances until Jason Knight tried one from long range and former Robin, and Championship Player of the Season nominee, Sammy Szmodics poked an effort wide of the target.
City’s first substitutes followed and made an instant impact as Hyam lost the ball to Mehmeti at the by-line and the Albanian international cut into the box and tucked a third goal home.
Fellow substitute Wells swept home a second Robins penalty after Kyle McFadzean handled the ball in the box just five minutes after Mehmeti’s goal.
Then in the dying embers, Wells doubled his tally and put the cherry on the cake as he tapped home Harry Cornick’s low-squared cross.
