Tommy Conway, Nahki Wells and Anis Mehmeti netted for City to beat Blackburn Rovers 5-0 in emphatic fashion.

Conway bagged a first-half brace before second-half substitutes Mehmeti and Wells earned themselves a goal and brace respectively.

City’s victory takes their unbeaten run to five games, marks a third consecutive home win, placing them in good stead as they head into another home fixture against Huddersfield Town.

City flew out of the gates with Twine getting two shots off inside the opening ten minutes.

Dillan Markanday fired on the volley from just outside of the area, but the in-form O’Leary collected comfortably.

24 minutes into the contest Conway gave City the lead after he capitalised on Dominic Hyam’s mistake and made calmly found the back of the net after beating the keeper one-on-one.

Moments later Joe Rankin Costello entered Robert Madley’s book after a late challenge on Jason Knight.

The home side would continue to push on and were rewarded for their intensity as Hyam brought down Sykes in the area, earning his side a penalty, just after the half an hour mark. Conway stepped up confidently and slotted the ball down the middle to double City’s advantage.

Twine and Sykes would combine nicely in the 40th minute but the Irishman couldn’t quite guide his dink over Pears into the back of the net.

Conway almost bagged himself a hat-trick in the closing stages of the half, but his low effort was saved well by the foot of Rovers’ shot stopper.

John Eustace made a quadruple substitution at half time and his side started with more intensity resulting in an early corner.

Knight fired from outside the area after linking nicely with Conway but dragged his effort wide and moments later Sammie Szmodics’s sliding effort went narrowly wide.

Liam Manning made a triple substitution at 70 minutes as Mehmeti, Harry Cornick and Wells replaced Twine, Sykes, and Conway.

Mehmeti made instant impact, scoring within moments of entering the game, beating Hyam to ball before skipping past Kyle McFadzean and bending the ball into the bottom corner.

Liam Manning’s side were awarded another penalty in the 77th minute after McFadzean handled the ball in an attempt to clear City’s corner. Substitute Wells smashed it home in front of the South Stand.

Andy King and Jamie Knight-Lebel entered the game late on in quick succession to replace Joe Williams and Ross McCrorie.

To cap off a fantastic mid-week result, Wells tapped home a fifth in added time after Cornick’s cross found him perfectly at the back post taking the strikers Championship goal tally to 100.

Starting XI: O’Leary, Tanner, Vyner, Roberts, McCrorie (Knight-Lebel 85′), Williams (King 81′), Knight (C), Pring, Sykes (Wells 70′), Twine (Mehmeti 70′), Conway (Cornick 70′)

Substitutes (Unused): Bajic, James, Mebude
