  • Dundee derby ends 2-2; St Mirren beat Hibernian

Celtic began the defence of their Premiership title with a routine 4-0 win at home to Kilmarnock.

Reo Hatate fired them into the lead after 17 minutes with a cool finish from the edge of the penalty area. Celtic doubled their lead five minutes before half-time when Liam Scales headed a corner from Matt O’Riley inside the far post.

Nicolas-Gerrit Kühn added the third on the hour when his deflected strike looped over the Kilmarnock goalkeeper, Robby McCrorie. Anthony Ralston wrapped up the scoring in stoppage time with his first Celtic goal since 2021.

Dundee fought back twice to prevent city rivals Dundee United marking their return to the top flight with a victory in a thrilling 2-2 draw. The newly promoted hosts led at the break after goals from Kristijan Trapanovski and Miller Thomson, either side of an equaliser from the Dundee forward Seb Palmer-Houlden. Tony Docherty’s side hit back for a second time to earn a point thanks to a late penalty from their captain, Luke McCowan.

St Mirren followed up their fine midweek European outing with a convincing 3-0 win over Hibernian. After qualifying for the next qualifying round of the Uefa Conference League with a 4-1 home win over the Icelandic side Valur on Thursday, the home side went ahead three minutes into the second half through Roland Idowu. The substitute Oisin Smyth headed in a second in the 77th minute and drove in a third two minutes later to wrap up a deserved victory.
