Members of the US rock band Train have paid tribute to their founder Charlie Colin after his death aged 58.

“He was THE sweetest guy and what a handsome chap. Let's make a band, that's the only reasonable thing to do,” the tribute continued. “His unique bass playing and beautiful guitar work helped get folks to notice us in SF and beyond. I'll always have a warm place for him in my heart.

“I always tried to pull him closer but he had a vision of his own. You're a legend, Charlie. Go charm the pants off those angels.”

“Thinking of Charlie, his family and you all,” one fan wrote in response to the band’s post on Wednesday. “Oh no! I just checked what happened. Sorry for your loss,” another person penned, reminiscing: “I had the pleasure of meeting him and kindly took a photo with me. I had that photo on my wall for years.”

Despite being one of the band’s founding members, Colin reportedly left the band in the early 2000s due to substance abuse.

While Train recorded their most famous hit ‘Hey, Soul Sister’ in 2009 following his departure, his bass playing did feature on their debut and sophomore albums, the latter of which feature their hit songs ‘Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)’ and ‘Something More’.

Following his departure from Train, Colin went on to play more music, forming several bands with friends including Food Pill, Painbirds, and most recently, The Side Deal.

The thoughts of everyone at Virgin Radio are with Charlie Colin’s friends and family.
