Chronic wasting disease (CWD) -- or “zombie deer disease” as it’s more colloquially known -- has been spreading across the globe, and with that spread comes renewed fears that it might at some point infect human beings.

Cases of the disease have recently been reported in deer, elk and moose in 33 states in the U.S., as well as in Canada and South Korea, according to the New York Post. Yellowstone National Park announced its first case last November after a deer carcass tested positive.
