Naga Munchetty and Clive Myrie are among BBC presenters who have boosted their earnings with six-figure sums from speaking engagements over the past three years.

Analysis of the Corporation’s external events register reveals BBC Breakfast presenter Ms Munchetty earned more than £155,000 on top of her regular salary of around £335,000.

Meanwhile, Mr Myrie, who presents the news and Mastermind, has pocketed in excess of £130,000 from external work since the BBC started publishing the register in 2021.

Paid-for engagements can include working as hosts, speakers, interviewers or panellists for external organisations.

Figures show that Ms Munchetty, 49, carried out four speaking engagements, each earning her more than £10,000. She carried out a further 23 appearances that paid ‘£5,000-£10,000’, including work for Microsoft, Cunard, Veuve Clicquot and Associated British Foods.

Mr Myrie, 59, whose last published BBC salary was £285,000, received ‘over £10,000’ on five occasions including for work with Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association.

He got ‘£5,000-£10,000’ for 13 appearances, including for Fujitsu, the company at the centre of the Post Office scandal, People’s Postcode Lottery and the Royal Academy of Engineering, as well as smaller payments for other work.

Radio 4 Today presenter Nick Robinson, 60, who is paid about £275,000 by the BBC, was also among the higher earners thanks to outside work.

Based on the published figures, he received in the region of £90,000 from external engagements – including more than £30,000 in one month.

His colleague on Today, Justin Webb, who earns about £280,000 at the BBC, made at least £79,000 extra.

Presenters John Simpson, Kirsty Wark, Amol Rajan and Mishal Husain, along with former BBC broadcasters Emily Maitlis and Dan Walker, also profited from external earnings

The BBC introduced the external events register in 2021 in a bid to strengthen impartiality at the corporation.

The figures also reveal that former News At Ten presenter Huw Edwards received at least £125,000 in extra payments.

Prior to resigning on ‘medical advice’, he had been suspended over claims he paid a teenager for sexual images.

Firms that paid Mr Edwards, 62, whose BBC salary was about £435,000, included the Business Champion Awards and the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.
