BBC's Clive Myrie 'pleased' with job but admits parents thought he'd ...

Clive Myrie is one of the BBC's chief news presenters and correspondents. However, the 59-year-old has confessed he left his parents unhappy when he initially announced his chosen profession.

Initially, he set out for a career in law after studying he subject at Sussex University. But in 1988 gained a place on the BBC's prestigious journalism trainee scheme where he has since gone on to cover stories around the Isreal-Hamas war and even the like of the Huw Edwards scandal.

When he broke the news to his parents that he would no longer be keeping criminals behind bars, he said they took the news terribly. In an interview with the Radio Times, he was heard saying they thought he had made a huge "mess".

He said: "My parents were convinced that I’d made a big old mess of my career choice, they’re now very proud of me." Today he is a multi-award-winning journalist and one of the network's most experienced foreign correspondents.

Clive began presenting the news in 2009 and was named the longest-running presenter for quiz Mastermind and Celebrity Mastermind in August 2021. And most recently just fronted a popular show "Clive Myrie's Caribbean Adventure".

Away from the small screen, he lives a quiet life with his stunning wife Catherine who is a furniture restorer.

The pair met in 1992 and have been married for more than two decades with her regularly joining him at red carpets and events.

Despite marital bliss, they never introduced any offspring into their lives which he recently opened up about after the subject surfacing in his new programme.

Ahead of appearing on his new show which sees him discuss his personal family concerns, the broadcaster shed light on his own choices.

For many years he has been forced to travel around the globe thanks to perilous stories he has covered.

The demands of his work meant he could spend weeks away from home. He said: "It wasn't the danger of the job, just the travelling."

He added: "We felt it would be selfish on children to drag them around the world. We've come from big families. I'm from a family of seven (children), Catherine's from a family of five kids."

In their early days together, the couple did attempt to conceive, however, he said "nothing seemed to be happening".

The star disclosed to The Times: "We were trying for a child, nothing seemed to be happening. Then we ended up moving and realised that it would be quite unfair because we just love travelling so much."
