While Liverpool are still 12 points off Pep Guardiola’s side, they do boast two games in hand and could well make things interesting in the second-half of the season.
Standing in their way, however, are a Crystal Palace side reborn under the impressive stewardship of Patrick Vieira.
The Frenchman has instigated a quick-fire rebuild of a team going somewhat stale under Roy Hodgson and have certainly impressed during their meetings with the elite sides in the Premier League so far this season.

41 mins: How’s this stayed out?!
Again, Liverpool gift the ball straight to Olise, this time Firmino the guilty man, and he slides Mateta in behind.
The forward rounds Alisson and tries to squeeze home from the angle but the ‘keeper gets enough on it to divert it across the face of goal, where both Van Dijk and Matip are relieved not to nudge it into their own net as they race back.
39 mins: There’s a chance!
Joel Matip plays a dreadful blind pass across the edge of his own box and it’s picked off by Olise. He’s shown wide by Van Dijk and has to get his shot away from the angle - Alisson’s equal to it.
37 mins: Just about Palace’s brightest moment this. Mateta gets in down the right and fires into Gallagher in the middle but there’s too much pace on it for him to kill and his touch gets away from him. Great opening gone.

Liverpool switch it one way, then the other and Robertson’s cross goes over everyone to find Oxlade-Chamberlain at the back post, who drives past Guiata.
28 mins: Palace just cannot get out at the moment. Every time they clear the ball it coms straight back, nothing sticking up front. Firmino wins another corner with some delightful quick feet but this time Guehi powers clear.
24 mins: Big chance. Firmino gets to the byline and cuts back for Jota, who is pinned facing away from goal so the Portuguese lays off to Fabinho in space but the midfielder leans back and guides his effort into the Holmesdales.
20 mins: Alexander-Arnold is finding plenty of space down this right side and Henderson picks him out with a raking switch of play. The full-back cushions first-time across the box but it’s nicely mopped up.
16 mins: Liverpool have played some lovely stuff in tight spaces and Henderson almost guides a really delicate, first-time pass into the path of Oxlade-Chamberlain but Guaita is sweeping out to get there just in time.
11 mins: Chance!
Robertson’s cross is left alone by Firmino, who was offside, but Oxlade-Chamberlain is not and steals in round the back to meet it. The angle is just too tight for him, but Liverpool are all over the home side here.
