Danny Jones has admitted he has 'found a dad' in his fellow I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here campmate Barry McGuigan following an 'estranged' relationship with his own father.

The McFly star's dad, Alan Jones, 72, left the family when Danny was 19, and the singer has previously revealed how he sought therapy for anxiety over the incident.

"I had a massive bout of anxiety when I was 19 when my dad left," he told the Mail Online. "I feel sorry for any kid out there whose mum and dad have split up. It's their responsibility, they chose to have the kids, so they've got to be adult about it and stay in touch."

Speaking on the White Wine Question Time podcast in 2022, Danny added: "On Father's Day I'm angry that's getting in the way of me having a good time with my family and my son. I idolised him, and my mum, they're my first people I looked up to."

Last month, Danny's dad Alan spoke exclusively to the MailOnline and said he believes his divorce from Danny's mother Kathy 'ruined' his relationship with his son, who he describes as a 'lovely lad' with a 'heart of gold'.

The radio DJ, who now lives in Benidorm with his wife Sharon, hasn't met his six-year-old grandson Cooper, who Danny shares with his wife and former Miss England Georgia Horsley - but is holding out hope that 'one day it will happen'.

Danny has never visited his father in Spain, where he moved to in 2016, and Alan was not present at his daughter Vicky's wedding last year. He was also not invited to Danny and Georgia's wedding in 2014.

During his time in camp, Danny broke down in tears about his mental health struggles, admitting he once had a panic attack during an interview on This Morning. He told his fellow campmates: "I felt like a camera had gone above me, I felt white and like I was going to puke. My heart rate went crazy."

He also made an emotional confession that he had found a father figure in his fellow campmate Barry McGuigan. Whilst delivering a heartwarming speech reflecting on his time in camp, Danny confessed: 'Just like I was scared to do this speech, I was scared to do this show.'

'I was exposed, and I couldn't you know hide behind my guitar, and it's been the most uplifting empowering experience I've ever had.' He then sweetly gestured to Barry, 63, and said: "And I've also found a dad. I love you all.'

In the Bush Telegraph, Barry then looked emotional as he said: "It's lovely that he feels that I am a fatherly figure. He's such a great kid, I hope I will be friends with him for the rest of my life."
