Indian actor Dhanush K Raja and his wife, film director Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth, have announced they are separating after 18 years together.
Dhanush has starred in 46 films and primarily works in Tamil Cinema, whilst Aishwaryaa has directed and sung in many films in the same industry.
The 38-year-old actor announced the news in a Twitter statement, writing: “18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well-wishers to each other.”
“Today we stand at a place where our paths separate… Aishwaryaa and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better,” he continued.

The pair, who met through their parents, have got two children together.
They have two sons, 15-years-old Yatra Raja and 11-year-old Linga Raja.
Not much is known about them, but Dhanush once opened up about the close relationship he has with his sons.
In an interview with India Today, he said: “My sons are like my friends. When they see me after a long time, they naturally get excited. I try to do as much as I can do in those few days that I get with them.”
“I take them to school and bring them back. I play with them. They really look forward to those things whenever I am in town. It’s like any other family and father-son bond,” he continued.
In another interview with Times of India, Dhanush revealed that his sons are the thing he is “most attached to” and said: “Every man plays many roles. So far, I have played father the best.”
He also revealed the meaning behind their names, explaining that Yatra means ‘pilgrimage’ and Linga was named so because Dhanush is a ‘shiv bhakta’.
Dhanush and Aishwaryaa met in 2002 and were actually introduced to each other through their parents.
Speaking to Times of India in 2015, Dhanush revealed that it on the release day of his film Kadhal Kondaen that they met.
“We as a family went to watch it. By the interval, we were all hugging each other as we knew it would be a hit. Once the film was over, I was about to leave when the cinema owner introduced me to Rajinikanth sir’s daughters Aishwarya and and Soundarya,” he said.
Dhanush continued: “We just said hi to each other and left. The next day, Aishwarya sent me a bouquet saying, ‘Good work. Keep in touch’. I just took that very seriously.”
They then got married two years later, on November 18th, 2004, and had their children in 2006 and 2010.

The pair didn’t give an exact reason behind the divorce but hinted that they have simply drifted apart over the years.
It’s clear that there is no scandal or bad blood between them, as Dhanush wrote:
“Today we stand at a place where our paths separate… Aishwaryaa and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better.”
He revealed that it was a mutual decision and asked everyone to “respect” it and give them “privacy”.
