Detectives are continuing to quiz a van driver after a 12-year-old girl was left with 'life-changing injuries' when she was knocked down at a Tim Hortons drive-thru in Oldham.

Police and paramedics were scrambled to the scene at the fast-food restaurant on Manchester Road at around 3.05pm yesterday (Friday). Officers taped off a stretch of the drive-thru as they responded.

The girl was rushed to hospital with 'life-changing injuries', police said. The van driver - a male - was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.

Last night, a cordon remained in place around the drive-thru and restaurant for several hours as investigations were carried out. It's understood the restaurant remained open to the public but the drive-thru was closed.
