Team GB and University of Stirling swim star Duncan Scott has won his second medal at the Paris Olympics - taking silver in the Men's 200m Individual Medley.

Scott - who won gold in the Men's 4x200m Freestyle Relay earlier in the week - has now taken his total Olympic medal count to eight.

With two gold and six silver to his name, Scott - who has trained at Stirling, Scotland's University for Sporting Excellence for almost a decade - now surpasses Sir Chris Hoy in total Olympic medals. Only cyclists Sir Jason Kenny and Sir Bradley Wiggins are ahead of him on the British Olympic medal list.

Scott put in a brilliant performance in the pool on Friday night as he went up against home favourite Leon Marchand. Marchand was too strong for the rest of the field and was comfortable going into the final 50 metres - and touched home to record a time of 1:54.06.

Scott's teammate Tom Dean, American Carson Foster, and China's Wang Shun were all in contention for a podium place as they entered the final freestyle leg - but the Stirling ace managed to pull away and secured second with a time of 1:55.31. Wang Shun was third with 1:56.00.

Speaking after the race, a "buzzing" Scott said he may have made his coach - the University's Steve Tigg, who also coaches on Team GB - a "bit nervous".

He added: "My target was to really push myself out there. I know that I've got a really strong freestyle - and I know those guys are thinking about my freestyle when it's coming into the later stages of the race.

"I knew that if I could get to a good position at 150 metres... but it was probably a stretch too far there - he [Marchand] showed his class and went very quick. It was pretty special being able to race him."

Scott's individual events in Paris are now over - however, he still hopes he may be selected for one of the remaining relays. He added: "I think that's a great way to finish it off [Paris Olympics] - or, if I'm included in some relays; happy days - I'll always put my hands up for them!"

Fellow Stirling swimmer Jack McMillan also won gold after swimming the heats in the Men's 4x200m Freestyle Relay.
