Tam Courts in Dundee United derby frustration as Tangerines gaffer bemoans chaotic Dens Park clash
United played out goalless draw with city rivals the Dark Blues in the second derby of the season

Tam Courts has admitted his frustration as the chaos of the Dundee derby saw his gameplay come unstuck.

The Dundee United boss bemoaned the "chaotic and frenzied" nature of the match as they played out a stalemate with city rivals Dundee in their second meeting of the season.

The Dark Blues had the better of the clash at Dens Park, but the Terrors grew into it late on - hitman Nicky Clark spurning two glorious chances.

However, Courts wasn't too harsh on his striker, instead focusing on his team as a whole - frustrated at their inability to break down the hosts.

The result means the Tangerines remain in seventh spot, but the Dee drop to the bottom of the Premiership.

"It was chaotic and frenzied like a lot of derbies - in the first 45 minutes I felt frustrated," Courts said.

"Considering it was chaotic for prolonged periods, the way we committed didn’t suit us.

"The latter part of the game showed us using the ball better and engineering better chances.

"I’m pleased with the clean sheet, the attitude and condition considering we played on Saturday (1-0 defeat at Celtic) and they’re fighting tor their lives.

"I would like us to have been braver because I felt there were many opportunities like that, but we couldn’t establish rhythm and control."

Of Clark, he added: "Nicky has got a big mentality and he’s experienced. His first touch was excellent, the defender made a big recovery tackle, but I expected to see the ball bulging in net.

"That would have changed the way I’m speaking. I wanted to see more quality and to attack Dundee on the wings, but we couldn’t get consistency.

"It’s good we got a clean sheet and welcomed back Liam (Smith).

"Ross Graham was probably composed player on the pitch and all credit to him."
