EA Is Increasing the Price of Its Subscription Service EA Play
Electronic Arts is increasing the price of its game subscription service EA Play, with the new pricing set to go into effect next month.

EA Play, the video game subscription service owned by Electronic Arts, is getting a price increase starting May 10.

A new report from GamesIndustry.biz says that Electronic Arts is planning to increase the standard tier for EA Play from $4.99 to $5.99 per month, or for those that prefer to pay for a year in advance, the price will increase from $29.99 to $39.99. In contrast, the Pro tier of EA Play will increase from a monthly fee of $14.99 to $16.99 or $119.99 annually (a $20 increase).

Emails viewed by IGN are currently going out to useres notifying them when the price increase will take effect. Interestingly, the new prices seem to have already taken effect for new members. As shown in the screenshot below, the new prices detailed in the paragraph above are visible, at least for the EA App, as the pricing for the Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox versions shows the old pricing.

Electronic Arts is not the only company raising the prices of its online-based subscriptions. Last June, Microsoft announced that the console version of Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate were getting a price increase. Sony announced last September that it was increasing the price of an annual subscription for PlayStation Plus.

EA Play originally launched in 2014 on Xbox One before making its way onto PS4 and PC in 2019 and 2020, respectively. Like other subscription-based services, EA Play provides subscribers access to a select library of games, but unlike Xbox Game Pass, EA Play includes games published by Electronic Arts. Those with a subscription to PC Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, however, have access to the EA Play game library at no additional cost.

The service was originally named EA Access and Origin Access before Electronic Arts announced in 2020 that it was combining Access and Origin Access Basic into EA Play, with the new name effective as of August 18, 2020.
