Octopus Energy issues 80 moneysaving message that could help millions
The energy giant has issued advice to its customers about how they can save money on their bills.

Energy giant Octopus Energy has news customers on how they can save some money on their bills. The company says families should look at how they pay their bills so as not to waste money.

Octopus says paying every month by Direct Debit usually helps you save the most pennies. It also keeps your bills steady throughout the year, stopping a sudden jump in winter when we're all cranking up the heating.

Such a step could be especially important for those with less money who might be finding it tough to pay for gas and electricity. The nugget of advice was shared by the company in a message posted on their websites support section.

The energy firm reminded customers who don't use Direct Debit that their bills would keep going up and down each month. Octopus suggests its good to: "Think about which tariff - and payment method - suits you best," reports Birmingham Live. They suggested setting up a monthly Direct Debit online, claiming it could knock around £80 off yearly bills.

Octopus has explained why regular Direct Debits helped you save: "A steady monthly direct debit is our most popular way to pay, because it allows you to spread your payments evenly across the 12 months, rather than paying less in summer and much more over the winter. Because this method costs us less in admin, your unit price is less, saving the average home on our variable tariff around £80 a year."

The company also suggested other payment options, stating: "Pay by variable direct debit, where you pay for exactly what you use every month. Or, switch to smart pay-as-you-go, where you top up your meters as and when you need to.

"If you already have a smart meter, we should be able to switch you to smart prepay fairly quickly."
