The DWP Warm Home Discount scheme provides a one-off discount of £150 applied to electricity bills between early October 2023 and 31st March 2024

British Gas, OVO, Octopus, and EDF customers are among those who can get £150 in a 'one-off'. Millions of UK homes have less than 30 days to get a £150 cut off their electricity bills with the Warm Home Discount Scheme.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) gives a one-time discount of £150 on electricity bills from early October 2023 to 31st March 2024. The Warm Home Discount is to help people who might find it hard to pay for heating in winter. It's a single payment of £150 that goes as credit on your electricity bill.

In England and Wales, there are now two Core Groups. "Core Group 1" is for those getting the guaranteed part of pension credit and "Core Group 2" is for those on some benefits and who have high heating costs, our colleagues at Birmingham Live report.

In Scotland, there's still the "Core Group" and the "Broader Group". If you're in the Core Group, you might automatically get the Warm Home Discount, and the DWP will tell you.

You'll get a letter from the government, and they'll make sure your energy supplier pays you. The supplier you're with on August 13 2023 has to give you your money. To get the Warm Home Discount, you must be the named person on the account or their partner.

You might be in Core Group 1 if, on the qualifying date, you were getting the Guarantee Credit part of Pension Credit in England and Wales (and Scotland). You could be in Core Group 2 (In England and Wales) if, on the qualifying date, you were receiving means-tested benefits with the highest heating costs.

The benefits that make you eligible for Core Group 2 include Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, Income Support, Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, Child Tax Credits and Working Tax Credits or Pension Credit Savings Credit.
