'Trying' Season 4 Trailer: Apple TV+ Comedy Returns — Watch Now

Trying Season 4 Trailer Apple TV Comedy Returns Watch Now
Rafe Spall and Esther Smith return in the Apple TV+ comedy, "Trying," about a married couple doing their best with each unexpected turn of parenthood.

When last we saw Nikki (Esther Smith) and Jason (Rafe Spall) in the Apple TV+ comedy series “Trying,” the couple was trying to pull off a reverse shotgun wedding — well, sort of. The long-term partners decided they finally wanted to get married, but rather than get hitched before people knew they were pregnant, they wanted to tie the knot before their kids were taken away from them. Luckily, Nikki and Jason won their court case against their adopted children’s biological grandmother, and with that out of the way, all their worries were over.

OK, not quite. “Trying” takes a warts-and-all approach to parenthood (if not life in general), so there will always be concerns, big and small, for the family to deal with — the key is sticking together, no matter how trying things get. Season 4 brings a fresh set of family matters, as the story jumps six years into the future when Princess (Scarlett Rayner) is a teenager and Tyler (Cooper Turner) is nearly there, as well.

Among minor issues regarding the household utilities and finding a little me-time between work and maternal obligations, the new season also throws Nikki and Jason a frightening follow-up to Season 3’s biggest fear: the unwelcome return of a biological parent. “As Princess starts to yearn for a connection with her birth mother, Nikki and Jason find themselves confronted with the ultimate test of their parenting skills” — do they help with the search or dampen her enthusiasm? And what do they do if the mom wants back in? What does that mean for the nuclear family they worked so hard to create?

Per Apple, “Trying” is created, written, and executive produced by Andy Wolton, as well as executive produced by Josh Cole, Sam Pinnell, and Chris Sussman. The series is produced by BBC Studios.

The trailer (which you can watch below) features a brand new single from London-based pop star BEKA, titled “Forever,” who will also provide original songs in each episode of Season 4. She follows Maisie Peters and Bear’s Den who wrote and performed the soundtracks for “Trying” Season 2 and Season 3, respectively.

“Trying” Season 4 premieres Wednesday, May 22 with two episodes. New episodes will be released weekly through the finale on July 3.
