Elden Ring Gets Another Steam Update Fueling Shadow Of The Erdtree Rumors
Ahh, Hope...

Exactly one month ago, Elden Ring received a backend Steam update to its DLC category for the first time since launch, pointing to an imminent Shadow of the Erdtree announcement.

Since then, another update revealed that it's in the "quality assessment" stage, which was followed by a financial report from FromSoftwware's parent company, Kodokawa, highlighting that it's still in development but does not have a release date.

Elden Ring's second anniversary is imminent, as the game launched on February 25, 2022. Fans think that the DLC will finally be unveiled later this month to commemorate. And to add even more fuel to the speculative fire is yet another backend Steam update.

As you can see in the tweet embedded above, the artbook, original soundtrack, and newly added "Unknown App 2778580" have been updated.

"Unknown App 2778580" was added back in January, being the first new addition to the DLC category since the game launched. For comparison, the free coliseum update was not listed in this section, as it's reserved for additional paid content such as the bonus gesture, adventure guide, and pre-order bundle. It's more than likely that "2778580" is the long-awaited Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

As such, the new update could point to an announcement being imminent, but FromSoftware has not revealed anything officially so we can only speculate. It might be that fans are right and we'll finally see it unveiled on the game's anniversary, or that date might come and go with no reveal. We'll have to wait and see.

It's not just the DLC that's in development, however. A mobile game "inspired by Genshin Impact" is also reportedly in the works at Tencent, who allegedly acquired the licensing rights in 2022. According to reports, it'll be a free-to-play game with microtransactions based on the paid console/PC version.

We don't have a concrete release date yet or any official information, but it's worth noting that until it's announced, it might not ever see the light of day. Tencent also reportedly had a Nier game in development for two years, but it was cancelled after the company "struggled to find a compelling monetisation model." That being said, it has had huge success bringing PUBG to the world of mobile, so only time will tell how Elden Ring fares.
