A bloody, knife-wielding clown was spotted on Google Maps standing in front of a blood-soaked door.

The clown, who has not yet been identified, was pictured on Google Maps' street view peering out the door of a basement apartment in Montreal, Canada, the New York Post reported.

It remains unclear whether it was a prank to amuse map searchers planned as the car with a panoramic camera passed by the city, or whether the car happened to pass by during the middle of a Halloween party.

Cars throughout the world travel down streets and take panoramic views for Google's street view feature, which first launched in 2007 in several US cities and has since expanded to include cities and rural areas worldwide.

But the frightening neighborhood clown is not the first time something creepy was spotted on the Google Maps feature.

Over the summer, a TikTok video from user @hidden.on.google.earth went viral showing a creepy clown-like face under a bridge in Ithaca, New York.

The TikToker wrote that it looked like Pennywise, from Stephen King's IT, while others commented that it looked more like the Joker, from Batman.

Others, however, came up with a more plausible explanation and said it was likely a trick of the brain, as humans tend to perceive ordinary objects as faces in a phenomena known as pareidolia.

One user commented that the eyes of the face were likely just bolts, and part of the bridge structure.

And back in 2014, police in Leith, Scotland were alerted after the Google Maps feature appeared to show a murder taking place.

They followed up on the tip and traced the apparent killer back to a mechanic's car repair shop, where they discovered a couple of the workers staged the murder when they saw the camera car approaching.
