Killer Mike, Following Three Wins, Handcuffed at 2024 Grammys Venue

Killer Mike won three awards today at the 2024 Grammys: Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Album. Following his triumphs, the rapper was handcuffed at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena and escorted out of the venue, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Chris Gardner. Gardner also reported that Mike is facing a misdemeanor charge unrelated to anything at the Grammys.

When reached by Pitchfork, a Los Angeles Police Department representative could not offer information on the incident. Pitchfork has also emailed representatives for Killer Mike.

Killer Mike has posted on X since Gardner shared video of the rapper in handcuffs. His post, however, appears to be in reference to his Grammys sweep, not his apparent arrest: “Thank God. ???????????????????????????????????? ???? ???? ????.”

According to Rolling Stone, an LAPD source said that Killer Mike was handcuffed “after an alleged ‘physical altercation’ inside the arena involving a third party.” There will reportedly be an investigation, and the third party will be asked if they want to pursue charges against the Atlanta artist.

Killer Mike won Best Rap Song and Performance for “Scientists & Engineers,” and he won Best Rap Album for Michael. One of his competitors in Best Rap Album, Travis Scott, posted on X after Mike’s victory, “????.” In addition, Drake, who also lost to Killer Mike, wrote online, “All you incredible artists remember this show isn’t the facts it’s just the opinion of a group of people who’s name are kept a secret ???????? (literally you can google it) congrats to anybody winning anything for hip hop but this show doesn’t dictate shit in our world.”
