Adam Sandler fans have been sent into overdrive after rumours have begun over a possible sequel to 'Happy Gilmore'.

The 1996 classic follows Gilmore, a failed ice hockey player, who is then nurtured into a golf pro due to his incredible drive from the tee.

Grossing a whopping £32.6million, the film is long considered one of Sandler's finest performances and a second movie is rumoured to be on the way.

Christian McDonald, who plays Gilmore's rival on the pro tour in Shooter McGavin, has teased the potential of another release speaking recently over in the States.

"I saw Adam [Sandler] about two weeks ago, and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this,'" McDonald said during a radio interview on Audacy’s 92.3 The Fan.

"I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How about that,’ and he shows me the first draft of ‘Happy Gilmore 2.'

"Maybe you should cut that out [of this audio] because I don’t wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, ‘Well, that would be awesome.’ So, it’s in the works. Fans demand it, dammit!"

With the plot relatively unknown and both stars now 30 years older, a potential Netflix release has also been speculated by sources online.

Gilmore's grandmother (Frances Bay) passed away in 2011 aged 92, whilst Chubbs Peterson (Carl Weather) also sadly perished early this year aged 76.

"A true great man. Great dad. Great actor. Great athlete. So much fun to be around always," Sandler wrote in tribute of Weathers, his Happy Gilmore co-star and friend.

"Smart as hell. Loyal as hell. Funny as hell. Loved his sons more than anything.

"What a guy!! Everyone loved him. My wife and I had the best times with him every time we saw him.

"Love to his entire family and Carl will always be known as a true legend."
