Mystery as major restaurant chain closes doors in Scottish city
A sign has appeared outside the Hard Rock Cafe indicating that the restaurant will not be operating today (February 27).
The iron gates are also closed on the Buchanan Street venue.
The same message appears on the website and it is understood that the restaurant is not taking future bookings.
Staff were also not available to answer the phone.
Hard Rock Cafe has been contacted for comment.
Unite Hospitality has revealed that it is working with staff amid reports that the restaurant has permanently closed.
A spokesperson said on Twitter: "We understand that HardRock in Glasgow may have closed with immediate effect. We are currently supporting workers affected. If you are not already involved, please contact us directly."
Bryan Simpson, lead organiser of Unite Hospitality, said: "The way in which workers at Hard Rock have been treated is morally reprehensible and almost certainly unlawful.
"For so many workers to be given so little notice is outrageous and a clear breach of well established employment law. We will be doing everything in our power to support our members at Hard Rock to ensure they are paid everything they are entitled to.”
A music production company which regularly hosts events in the restaurant also voiced their concern regarding the reports of permanent closure.
Shock City Productions said: "Urgent update....we have heard the Hard Rock Cafe Glasgow may have closed.
"At present we have no idea buy obviously we have a lot of shows in that venue. Firstly our thoughts are with all the great staff we worked with & secondly we will work to keep as many of these shows running. As always we will work to keep music alive. We will update in due course....thanks."
