I’m A Celebrity 2021 is underway – and it’s yet to be determined which of the star-studded cast will take on the most horrid of Bushtucker Trials, or be crowned King or Queen of the Castle.

Among the cast is Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Madeley, who is perhaps best known to many as one-half of celebrity couple Richard and Judy.

For some, however, there might be a sensation of déjà vu when it comes to seeing Richard on the show.

So, has he appeared on I’m A Celebrity before?

Has Richard Madeley been on I’m A Celebrity before?

Yes. Richard Madeley has technically appeared on I’m A Celebrity before. Well, sort of.

Cast your mind back to 2019, when the show was set in the sunny Australian jungle.

Richard Madeley actually spent a week appearing on the ITV2 spin-off Extra Camp.

So, why was the Britain-based presenter in Australia for the show?

Well, while Richard wasn’t a campmate in 2019, he was there supporting his son-in-law, England rugby star James Haskell, who was in the I’m A Celebrity camp.

Perhaps the trip proved useful in more ways than one.

During Richard’s Extra Camp appearance, he got a taste of what the show’s famous Bushtucker trials were really like.

He excelled during his – during which he was tasked with collecting keys from a giant termite nest. He got every single one, all while supporting former winner Joe Swash through the challenge.

The trial certainly didn’t seem to put Richard off, as flash forward two years later – and he’s actually said that he really hopes he gets voted to participate in them.

Richard confessed: ‘I really hope I do get voted for the trials. The thing about this programme is you mustn’t go into it if you take yourself remotely seriously.

‘I don’t and I am thoroughly looking forward to being covered in God knows what.

‘You have to be prepared for people to laugh and I see this as a bloody great romp of fun.’

He said the only challenge he is fearful of is the route he will have to take to get to the Welsh castle.

‘I spent many years on my grandparents’ farm in Shropshire,’ he revealed. ‘I am used to animals, rats, so I’ve had all that knocked out of me.

‘I don’t like heights though and what bothers me the most is the route into the castle. Maybe I will have to walk a plank over a 150ft open space.

‘I am not looking forward to that at all and I know my head could say “do it” and my body could freeze.’
