Facebook, Instagram And Other Meta Apps Are Down, Users Being Logged Out
Social media users worldwide were met with frustration as popular platforms owned by Meta, including Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and others, experienced widespread outages, including in India. Users reported being abruptly logged out of their accounts and encountering difficulties while using the platforms. Many users also facing issues with the Meta-owned instant messaging application WhatsApp as well.
Outages are spiking on the DownDetector.com website. Social media users took to Elon Musk-owned micro-blogging platform X to report the outage. "Facebook is down, so I guess I'll come hang out with my Twitter peeps. How are we doing on this Tuesday, friends!?," a user wrote on X.
Users across all Meta-owned apps are experiencing difficulties when attempting to reset their passwords and utilise two-factor authentication for logging in.
This is the biggest outage of 2024 so far with the major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and WhatsApp facing the impact all over the world.
"We aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.” Andy Stone, Meta spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and owner of X, wasted no time in responding to the outage of several key services belonging to tech giants Meta and Google on Tuesday night. Google, YouTube, Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram were among the platforms that ceased responding, prompting users to be logged out of their accounts. Musk took the opportunity to poke fun at Meta and Google with his reaction.
According to DownDetector.com website, Facebook experienced over 300,000 outage reports, while Instagram had over 20,000 reports.
Meanwhile, Facebook and Messenger apps are back online and working while other Meta services including Instagram are still not working. All major Meta services were down for almost an hour -- in what was one of the longest outages in the history of the tech platform. Thousands of users took to X to complain that they were either logged out of these platforms or were not able to use them anymore.
However, after almost an hour of not functioning, at least Facebook and Messenger have started working again, Times Now Tech can confirm. We used both these platforms to check their status and were sucessfully able to send messages as well.
