Coronation Street's Roy Cropper leaves the cobbles – but it may not be for good

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street fans were left sobbing tonight (November 24) as Roy Cropper left the cobbles, but it's unclear if he's gone for good.

The police have been hanging around and asking questions again lately, about the gun used in Super Soap Week and its link to Seb Franklin's father, as well as the sinkhole at the Platts' house.

With all his lies to the law building up, Roy decided to leave for South America pretty much effective immediately, having found a job serving food to conservation workers.

He got Adam Barlow to sign over his entire estate to Nina Lucas, and instructed Abi to sell the Woody. Nina, afraid that Roy was planning to take his own life, learned that he was preparing to leave, and endeavoured to stop him.

She summoned Carla Connor, Cathy Matthews, Chesney Brown, Brian Packham, Fiz Stape and Mary Taylor to the café to all urge him to stay. Although they all t0ld him how much he meant to them, one person at a time, he told them that he was still leaving.

Nina tearfully tried one final time to stop him, but he said that the fact he'd even lied to Carla over a voicemail Nina left about Roy being in trouble was proof he had to go. He got in a taxi and headed off, without looking back.

At the time of the episode airing, ITV hasn't stated that this is David Neilson's final ever appearance, so it's possible that he'll be back one day.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
