Reason why John Fury headbutted member of Oleksandr Usyks
Stanislav Stepchuk, who was headbutted by John Fury, thinks the dad of heavyweight champion Tyson was offended by his chants in support of Usyk

The reason why Tyson Fury's dad John headbutted a member of Oleksandr Usyk's team has been revealed.

Tempers have boiled over between Fury and Usyk's camps just five days before their undisputed heavyweight world title fight in Saudi Arabia. Mirror Fighting was on the ground in Riyadh for the fight week media day and chants of "Fury" and "Usyk" were being led by the respective teams.

John was then seen going head-to-head with a member of Usyk's entourage before walking and turning his attention to Stanislav Stepchuk. The 59-year-old then headbutted Stepchuk but did more damage to his own head as blood began to pour down his face. Stepchuk has now opened up on the incident as he told Seconds Out : “I was just supporting my team and shouting Usyk.

"I didn’t touch him [John], he just exposed his mind and went crazy. If he gets mad only from shouting Usyk’s name, what will happen in five days? He thinks there isn’t respect because of shouting Usyk’s name, so maybe he is a little bit crazy." Stepchuk admitted he was shocked when John headbutted him and described the moment as "irrational".

The Ukrainian, who had a small cut above his left eye, said he didn't want to strike John back because of the difference in age between them. Stepchuk added that he would accept an apology from John but warned him: "For his sake, don't watch the actual fight because he could have an heart attack and finish in an ambulance."

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are set to lock horns in a huge bout on May 18 with each fighter attempting to etch their name in boxing history as the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999. The stakes couldn't be higher as the pair will go head to head for the prestigious WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF titles.

Stepchuk said that Usyk 'laughed' when he was shown a video of the altercation and admitted there is now more bad blood between the two camps. John, who since apologised for his actions, told iFL TV : "I was sat there minding my own business and all I heard was 'Usyk, Usyk, Usyk' so I had to stand up for my son.

"My son is the best in the world and I want people to respect him and give him the credit he deserves. When I was in amongst them, all I could hear was badness. Some little idiot come forward in my space, he got what he got and that was the end of it. If one of my team was to insult Usyk, they'd be snapped. Leave the fighting men to fight at the end of the day."
