Laura Hamilton gives sad reason she hasnt spoken to Jonnie Irwin
Laura and Jonnie are close friends but have not spoken to each other in recent weeks

Laura Hamilton has explained the sad reason she hasn't spoken to A Place In The Sun co-host Jonnie Irwin recently, as he battles terminal cancer. Laura's comments come after Jonnie this week spent time in hospital amid a health scare.

Jonnie was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 after suffering symptoms while filming A Place In The Sun. Doctors gave Jonnie months to live, prompting him to bring forwards his 50th birthday celebrations, but he has defied the odds with health living and oxygen therapy.

This week, Jonnie went to hospital after being unable to sleep for days on end, and was given an MRI. Today, Laura said the pair haven't been messaging each other as regularly as they used to, and believes it's because her close friend is spending as much time as possible with his loved ones.

Laura told The Daily Star: "I haven't spoken to him recently but I know he's enjoying time with his family. It looks like he's doing really well." She went on to add "So it's kind of spending as much time with his family as he can."

The father-of-three has been vocal about his cancer journey on social media and shares the highs and lows in his daily life now that he's living with cancer.

Fans flocked to the comment section on Instagram to wish Jonnie well ami his health scare this week. One person wrote: "Stay strong, Jonnie! I’m keeping you on a worldwide prayer list and keeping you in my prayers, too! Sending so much love!" Another fan added: "We’re thinking if you Jonnie. Hope the scan went well and we hope you sleep well tonight." A third person chimed in: "You are amazing, no-one should have to deal with these things, you are in my prayers xxx."

Jonnie is a doting dad to son Rex and twins Rafa and Cormac and shares his three small children with his wife Jess. The TV presenter says he is continuing to live life to the fullest, although some days are more difficult than others, which he is open to sharing with his social media followers.

It comes after Jonnie explained earlier this month how he was still managing to stay positive. Speaking on the Conversations with Jane McLelland podcast, he explained: "One of the reasons I think I'm still here is I'm not a cancer patient. It's always there at the back of your mind, but I'm living with cancer, not dying with cancer." Jonnie then encouraged others not to focus too much on their prognosis, as he said: "If I just listened to the prognosis I'm perennially given, I'd be curled up in a ball and crying myself to death."
