Illan Meslier is currently being held on a pedestal by Daniel Farke regardless of performances.
Last weekend at Derby County, the Leeds United shot-stopper performed brilliantly as he pulled off a good save to keep the game goalless. However, it is one step forward and two steps back for Meslier.
It was questionable the decision to try and close down Abu Kamara for Hull's opener. The goalkeeper was caught in no man's land as the striker lobbed him.
But if there was doubt surrounding his decision-making for the first, the second goal was unforgivable. Meslier needed to claim the ball when it looped towards him but, instead, he was fully unaware of his surroundings, clattering into the crossbar and allowing Joao Pedro to stab home.
That goal managed to change the environment around the home side and ultimately led to an equaliser that would have been undeserved if it had been predicted 20 minutes earlier. In his post-match press conference, Farke said that he would not be looking to drop Meslier despite the mistake/s.
He has previously called the 24-year-old the best goalkeeper in the division. Such comments have led to him being linked to Manchester United.
However, Farke needs to do Meslier a favour and bring Karl Darlow in. This is not the first time that Meslier has made mistakes this season and he is currently feeling the heat from the fans.
Farke's insistence of sticking with Meslier is not doing him any favours and he needs to allow the 'keeper some time out of the squad to regroup. Next week's FA Cup clash with Harrogate Town provides a golden opportunity to do just that. If Darlow performs well, why not stick with him for a little while?
Meslier is not being helped by his manager professing he is something he is not. Now, Farke must show true leadership and take away the heat on Leeds' current No 1.
