M5 traffic: Air ambulance lands on motorway after 'serious' lorry crash

The M5 is closed in both directions in Somerset this afternoon (Friday, April 29) after a "serious" crash involving a car and a lorry.

The collision has occurred on the northbound carriageway of the motorway between junction 22 at Burnham-on-Sea and junction 21 at Weston-super-Mare.

An ambulance has landed on the motorway, resulting in the road being closed in both directions at 1.35pm.

It is unknown at this stage how many people have been injured in the collision or what their condition is.

Huge tailbacks are being reported along much of the M5 in Somerset as traffic makes its way into Devon and Cornwall ahead of the May bank holiday weekend.

Serious delays are being reported in both directions of the motorway.

Tailbacks are being reported back to junction 23 at Bridgwater North for those heading northbound, and to junction 19 at Portishead for those heading southbound.

There are also long delays being reported on the A38 through East Brent.
