On the occasion of March 8 (International Women's Day), the Syrian Women's Council issued a statement today.
And declared “full and sincere solidarity with all women in Syria, in order to empower them and eliminate all forms of discrimination and violence against women,” and said: “We join Syrian women’s organizations and institutions in celebrating this occasion so that the year 2024 is the year of recognition of women’s role and participation in all aspects of life.”
And pointed out that Syrian women suffered many scourges during this crisis, and stressed by saying: “After more than twelve years have passed since the current Syrian situation, we as Syrian women must increase the pace of struggle, work, and coordination to serve decentralized human rights and democratic work, in order to build a secure future, and a pluralistic democracy for Syrians.”
During the statement, the Syrian Women's Council put forward 7 items in which it called for "a cessation of combat operations by all parties, the actual and practical initiation of a peaceful political solution, and the sitting of all Syrians, of all components and sects, at the Syrian-Syrian dialogue table, in addition to the release of all political detainees, first and foremost women, and immediately reveal the fate of the missing ones.”
The Council also called for “drafting a comprehensive constitution that guarantees the rights of all Syrians, regardless of their components, religions, and nationalities, consolidating the principle of true citizenship, and establishing the necessary and effective mechanisms to achieve women’s participation and fair representation at all levels of the political process and public life.”
At the conclusion of its statement, the Council affirmed its endeavor to convey the voice of women to all parts of the world, and to sit at the negotiating table in order to bring Syria and the Syrians out of the tunnel of crisis towards a safe, democratic, and decentralized future.
