Martin Kemp and son Roman divide Saturday Kitchen Live viewers
Matt Tebbutt returned to the helm of BBC's Saturday Kitchen today, and introduced celebrity guests Martin Kemp and his son Roman to viewers.

Martin Kemp and his son Roman Kemp have divided the opinions of Saturday Kitchen Live viewers. The pair appeared on the latest edition of the BBC cooking show and caused a stir as they donned matching outfits.

On Saturday (May 4), Matt Tebbutt returned to present another instalment of Saturday Kitchen Live. On the latest edition, he was joined by the likes of Spandau Ballet’s Martin, 62, broadcaster Roman, 31, and wine expert Helen McGinn.

After being introduced, Roman immediately took over the proceedings and announced: “Right, I’m going to start with the elephant in the room. I said this morning ‘Dad, I’m going in today I’m going to wear a nice dark navy blue shirt, it’s going to have that little texture to it’.

“He says, ‘yeah, alright, cool, see you later’. He turns up in the exact same,” the former Capital FM Breakfast Show presenter continued. “That is something that has really done me over, so thank you very much for that.”

In an attempt to swiftly move on from the wardrobe blunder, Martin said: “Well anyway, what did you say, Matt?” However, the studio erupted into fits of laughter upon finding out the 50-year-old had only asked if the pop star was well.

“I’m losing it,” joked Martin. “I forgot Alexa’s name the other day. You know when you go ‘Alexa, what’s the weather like today?’ I was going ‘Siri? Siri?’ Anyways, I’m very well.”

Following the chaotic start to the programme, fans were quick to have their say on the father-and-son duo.

One Saturday Kitchen Live viewer took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and wrote: “Nothing worse than having a father and son on TV. [Martin] and Roman Kemp! Too much talking already.”

A second typed: “Oh no Martin Kemp and his side kick #SaturdayKitchen.”

“Martin Kemp button your shirt up ffs. #Saturdaykitchen,” commented a third in response to the performer's sartorial choice.

However, despite the backlash, the pair also received an outpouring of support from fans, with one writing: “Ooh gorgeous Martin Kemp on #saturdaykitchen. He just gets better with age!”

Another agreed and typed: “I’d argue that Martin looks better in the blue shirt than Roman. Very much a silver fox! #saturdaykitchen.”

You can tune into Saturday Kitchen Live every Saturday from 10am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
