Mason Mount tipped for sensational Liverpool transfer with Chelsea star left frustrated
Liverpool have been earmarked as a potential destination for Chelsea star Mason Mount.

Liverpool have been tipped to complete a sensational transfer for Chelsea star Mason Mount. The England midfielder still has three years remaining on his deal at Stamford Bridge but is currently in talks over new terms, according to reports.

Mount has had a mixed start to the new Premier League season despite Thomas Tuchel’s side topping the table.

The 22-year-old is one of a couple of the Three Lions’ Euro 2020 squad who have begun the new campaign slowly.

He has played 14 times in all competitions and scored three goals. The trio of strikes came in a solitary top-flight fixture against Norwich City.

Illness and a wisdom tooth issue have stalled his last few weeks and prevented him from taking part in England’s most recent internationals. Mount played an hour in the Blues’ 3-0 victory over Leicester City on Saturday.

Perhaps a distraction for the academy graduate has been talks over a renewed contract. According to the Daily Star, Mount opened discussions with the Stamford Bridge hierarchy in September.

However, there is a chance that the £75,000 star could seek to leave due to frustrations over how he is treated at the club.

The report continues that Mount still feels he is dealt with as though he is an academy player, with the club’s big-money signings garnering preferential treatment.

And a source close to the player has incredibly tipped the former Derby County loanee to complete a transfer to Liverpool if he decides to exit Chelsea.

Mount, who has been capped 26 times by England, has previously spoken highly of Jurgen Klopp’s side and has admitted to watching them lift the Premier League title in 2020.

The Reds confirmed their first league success since 1990 following a victory over the Blues during Project Restart.

“Mason is a top lad and thought of well within Chelsea – and is popular with the team. But he isn’t feeling appreciated anymore,” a source told the Daily Star.

“He’s been at Chelsea since he was a tiny lad, but despite coming up through the academy, he doesn’t feel like he gets the same treatment or recognition as players bought in for big money.”

They added: “He is torn because he loves the club and the fans, but thinks it’s time for him to leave to step up his career. And where better to do that than Liverpool?”

Reflecting on a 1-0 win over Liverpool in March 2021, in which he scored the only goal, Mount said in August: “We won — but at an empty Anfield. I’ve never played there when it has been full.

“When the game kicks off and you can’t hear a thing for the first five minutes it might be different.

“I spoke to a couple of the boys about playing there and they say it is unbelievable.”

Mount has played 121 times for Chelsea since being handed his debut by previous boss Frank Lampard in August 2019. He had previously spent temporary spells at Vitesse and Derby, also playing under Lampard at the latter.

There was initially some concerns that he might not earn game time when Tuchel replaced the Blues legend in January.

However, he has remained a key player for the German and provided the assist for Kai Havertz’s Champions League-winning goal in May. Forty-one of his Chelsea appearances have come during Tuchel’s reign.
