Tupou 'just another Rebel in a jersey' to Wright's Reds

Queensland co-captain Liam Wright will be sparing the happy reunions until after fulltime against a Melbourne outfit stacked with former Super Rugby stablemates.

Friday night's Reds-Rebels clash at AAMI Park isn't just third against fourth - it's also Australian rugby's biggest sibling rivalry with five former Queenslanders lining up in the Melbourne navy blue.

The biggest storyline is of course Taniela Tupou, who will start against the side he represented 88 times, but there'll be no love lost with former Reds Filipo Daugunu, Lukhan Salakai-Loto, James Tuttle and Sam Talakai also in the mixer.

"We're trying not to single out people, they've got a massive pack and they've got an exciting backline," Wright told media ahead of their Super Rugby Pacific Round 4 clash.

"It'll be good to se guys like Nela and Lukhan, they're good men, they're Queenslanders, Lipo and Mafs and all those people, they're good people.

"We look forward to seeing them but on the field they're just another Rebel in a jersey. Our system doesn't change ... we just target whoever's in front running straight at us in that jersey. We'll do our best and good luck to them."

Wright also backed young flyhalf Harry McLaughlin-Phillips ahead of his starting battle with Wallaby playmaker Carter Gordon.

"(Harry)'s got a great voice about him and he's not afraid to tell the boys where they need to be and what they need to do which is exactly what you want from a ten," Wright said.

"Tommy and Kalani are both UQ boys so they've got a bit of connection there to finish the game and Tate and Harry bring that spark towards the start.

"They'll do exactly what the team needs and make the right decision, I'm sure of it."
