Jake Paul offers bet to brother Logan to replace Mike Tyson in fight
Jake Paul has teased a fight with his brother Logan Paul after the much-anticipated bout against Mike Tyson was postponed.
Jake Paul was supposed to be fighting the legendary heavyweight at Dallas Cowboys’ 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 20. But news broke on Friday that the fight had been delayed after Tyson, 57, was deemed medically unfit following an ulcer flare up.
“During a follow up consultation on Thursday with medical professionals on his recent ulcer flare up, the recommendation is for Mike Tyson to do minimal to light training over the next few weeks and then return to full training with no limitations,” Paul's Most Valuable Promotions said in a statement.
"Both Mike and Jake are in agreement that it is only fair to ensure that both athletes have equal training time to prepare for this important match and are able to compete at the highest level. The health and well-being of athletes is our top priority, and we fully support Mike in taking the necessary time to allow him to perform at the level he expects of himself."
After dabbling in boxing, Logan has made a successful move into professional wrestling and has been thrust into the limelight by the WWE, but he has spotted an opportunity with Tyson unable to fight this summer, tweeting: “So Mike Tyson’s out? I’ll step in and we can settle this once and for all.” Jake replied: “Mom doesn’t want me to KO you but f*** it. Loser has to change their last name.”
That eventuality is not on the cards, with Jake’s fight against Tyson still slated to happen later this year. “My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s and I will be back to my full training schedule soon,” Tyson said.
“Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but in the end you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good. I appreciate everyone’s patience and can't wait to deliver an unforgettable performance later this year.”
Reacting to the delay, Jake said in a video posted on social media: “Obviously devastating news. I’m heartbroken, speechless, gutted. We’ve been working so hard over here, everyone in this camp and I just feel bad for everyone involved in this event, the undercard, this opportunity has been ripped from all of us.
"But I do value Mike’s health first and foremost – I love that guy, I have so much respect for him, I want Mike to be healthy. And he says he is still going to knock me out and I bought myself some time, so Mike is still talking s*** over there.
“But Mike, if you want to do this, like you said behind closed doors, behind the scenes, in Q4 and you just need a little more time, I’m ready whenever you are. This is too big of an opportunity – I think this fight is going to change the world. I turn all my Ls into Ws, that is a motto I live by. The universe makes no mistakes, so let’s see what’s in store, but sorry this didn’t work out.”
