Earlier in the day, it was announced that Ncuti will take over from Jodie Whittaker as the Time Lord in hit BBC series Doctor Who.
Aimee was quick to take to her Instagram Stories to congratulate her friend, saying she was 'crying' after learning of the big news.
Scottish actor Ncuti, who was born in Rwanda, is the first black actor to take on the leading role as The Doctor, after Jodie made history as the first permanent female Time Lord in 2017.
Jo Martin played the first black incarnation of the Time Lord in a January 2020 episode, Future of the Judoon, as Ruth Clayton, but Ncuti has become the first black Doctor to be cast as the series lead.

Just hours after the announcement, Ncuti and Russell T Davies, who is returning as Doctor Who's showrunner, grinned and posed for snaps at the BAFTA TV Awards.
On the red carpet, Ncuti admitted that he has kept his casting in Doctor Who under wraps since February and praised the popular sci-fi series for making people feel 'seen'.
In his first interview since the announcement, he said: 'I've known since February. It's been tricky keeping this under wraps because I've got a very big mouth. We did it.
'It feels amazing, this role is an institution and it's so iconic and means so much to so many people, including myself.

Achievement: And Aimee also nabbed a nomination in the category Female Performance in a Comedy Programme for her work in Sex Education
'It makes everyone feel seen. I'm very grateful to have the baton handed over and I'm going to try and do my best.'
Meanwhile, Davies said the team thought they had already chosen someone for the role of The Doctor when Ncuti came in and 'stole' the job.
'It was talent. He was the very last one, we thought we had someone and then in he came in and stole it,' Davies said.
'Genuinely loved Sex Education and loved his work, didn't quite know what we were going to get. I am properly thrilled.'
Congratulations! Earlier in the day, it was announced that Ncuti will take over from Jodie Whittaker as the Time Lord in hit BBC series Doctor Who
Support: Gatwa's Sex Education co-star Emma Mackey, who plays Maeve in the Netflix drama, and Bridgerton's Simone Ashley were quick to take to Instagram to congratulate their friend
Queer As Folk and It's A Sin writer Davies is returning as the programme's showrunner after departing the show in 2009.
Davies, who was responsible for Doctor Who's revival in 2005, will be back to celebrate the show's 60th anniversary in 2023, the BBC previously said.
The announcement of the new Doctor was teased by Davies and Ncuti on Instagram on Sunday, with a post featuring two heart emojis, a plus symbol and a blue square.
Previously speaking about his new role, Ncuti said he was 'deeply honoured' and 'beyond excited', but admitted that he was also a 'little bit scared' to join the franchise.
History maker: The 29-year-old will become the 14th Doctor on the popular BBC show, after Whittaker announced last July she will be leaving the role after five years
Debut: The official Doctor Who Twitter account broke the exciting news on Sunday, sending fans into a frenzy
He told the BBC: 'This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care.
'I will endeavour my upmost to do the same.'
He added: 'The entire team have been so welcoming and truly give their hearts to the show. And so as much as it's daunting, I'm aware I'm joining a really supportive family.
'Unlike the Doctor, I may only have one heart but I am giving it all to this show.'
Davies said Ncuti 'dazzled' in his audition, adding: 'The future is here and it's Ncuti! Sometimes talent walks through the door and it's so bright and bold and brilliant, I just stand back in awe and thank my lucky stars.'
Exciting: Ncuti was seen at the BAFTA TV Awards ceremony alongside returning Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies after it was confirmed that he will take over from Jodie Whittaker
He continued: 'Ncuti dazzled us, seized hold of the Doctor and owned those TARDIS keys in seconds. It's an honour to work with him, and a hoot, I can't wait to get started.
'I'm sure you're dying to know more, but we're rationing ourselves for now, with the wonderful Jodie's epic finale yet to come. But I promise you, 2023 will be spectacular.'
Ncuti's Sex Education co-star Emma Mackey, who plays Maeve Wiley in the Netflix drama, was quick to take to Instagram to congratulate her friend after the news broke.
The French-British actress, 26, shared the BBC's announcement to her Stories along with the caption: 'My Doctor.'

Bridgerton's Simone Ashley, who also starred alongside Gatwa as Olivia in Sex Education, also shared her joy at Gatwa being cast as the Doctor.
She wrote on her Instagram Stories: 'YES! So proud, go on @ncutigatwa.'
Last July, Whittaker announced she was leaving the role, described her four-year stint manning the Tardis as being 'the best job I ever had'.
Her departure is currently playing out across a three-part special, the first of which hit screens on New Year's Day 2022, before the second aired on April 17.
Colleagues: Davies said Gatwa 'dazzled' in his audition, adding: 'Sometimes talent walks through the door and it's so bright and bold and brilliant, I just stand back in awe'
'The future is here': The announcement was teased by Davies and Gatwa on Instagram, with a post featuring two heart emojis, a plus symbol and a blue square
Jodie's final, feature-length appearance as the Doctor – in which she will regenerate – will arrive in autumn 2022 as part of the BBC's centenary celebrations.

It's A Sin, written and created by Queer As Folk and Doctor Who screenwriter Russell T Davies, tracked a group of gay men and their friends as they navigated the UK's HIV/Aids crisis throughout the 80s and early 90s.
The show's 11 nominations, comprising of five in the craft categories and six in the television awards categories, include nods for Davies in the writer drama category, as well as a leading actor nomination for singer Olly Alexander for his role as Ritchie Tozer.
His co-star Lydia West has been nominated in the leading actress category, alongside Kate Winslet, who starred in HBO/Sky Atlantic's Mare Of Easttown, and marking The Titanic star's first TV performance nomination, although she has previously been nominated for and won film Baftas, and is a previous Britannia Award winner.
Fingers crossed: Landscapers, which starred Olivia Colman, has received seven nominations
Also nominated in the leading actress category are Denise Gough and Emily Watson for ITV's Too Close, alongside Jodie Comer for Channel 4 drama Help, and Niamh Algar for Channel 4's Deceit.
Stars going up against Years & Years singer Alexander in the leading actor category include David Thewlis for Landscapers, Hugh Quarshie for ITV's Stephen, Samuel Adewunmi for BBC's You Don't Know Me, Sean Bean for Time and Stephen Graham for Channel 4's Help.
Sky drama Landscapers, which also starred Olivia Colman, who is not nominated in the performance categories, is the second-most nominated TV show, with seven in total, five in the craft categories and two in the television categories.
Inspired by real events, the series starred Colman and Thewlis as a mild-mannered married couple whose lives are upturned after dead bodies are discovered in the back garden of a house in Nottingham.
Wow! A Very British Scandal, starring Claire Foy and Paul Bettany as the Duke and Duchess of Argyll in the drama about the couple's high-profile split in the 1960s, has four nominations

Holby City, which aired its final episode this week, is up against Casualty, Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
Comedian, presenter and star of The IT Crowd Richard Ayoade will host the Virgin Media Bafta TV Awards ceremony for the third consecutive year as it returns to London's Royal Festival Hall on May 8.
Admirable: GMB star Kate Garraway has made two moving documenatries over the past two years following her husband Derek's battle with the ongoing effects of Covid
EastEnders has been snubbed in the soap category at the BAFTA TV Awards.
The BBC show failed to get a nod despite strong storylines, including Gray Atkins' murders which have drawn in viewers throughout the year, however Holby City - which aired its final episode this week - did get a nod.
Hollyoaks was also snubbed in the Soaps category - which has been running on Channel 4 since 1995. Holby City is up against Casualty, Coronation Street and Emmerdale in the category.
Other notable snubs include an omission for Kate Garraway's emotional documentary Caring For Derek.
GMB star Kate has made two moving documenatries over the past two years following her husband Derek's battle with the ongoing effects of Covid.
Kate's 2021 documentary Finding Derek won a BAFTA last year but her recent follow-up Caring for Derek, following the family's adjustments after Derek returned home, failed to pick up a nod on Wednesday.
BBC favourite Line Of Duty also didn't receive any nominations despite its popularity with viewers.
The sixth series finale, which aired in May 2021 was the most-watched episode of any drama (excluding soaps) since modern records began in 2002, with 12.8 million tuning in.
The second most viewed drama of the year, BBC1's Vigil, did receive a nod in the Best Drama category but lead Suranne Jones was overlooked for a Leading Actress nomination.
