DWP starts to pay PIP and DLA 2024 rates and heres when youll get new
amounts
Some will be receiving a mix of old and new rates of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Disability Living Allowance (DLA) at first as the new amounts won't be fully applied until next month

The Department for Work and Pensions has this month brought in new payment rates for disability benefits. These include Personal Independence Payment (PIP), which is available to adults, and Disability Living Allowance (DLA), paid to children under 16.

For those requiring financial support for a disability after reaching pension age, a new claim for PIP isn't possible, but they can apply for Attendance Allowance instead. It's worth noting that anyone already receiving PIP can continue to do so after they reach the national retirement age.

The new benefit payment rates, with a rise of 6.7 per cent, came into effect on Monday, April 8, the start of the first week of the new financial year. PIP, DLA and Attendance Allowance are all based on weekly rates and usually paid every four weeks so they'll begin to be applied once a claimant has at least a week of their payment cycle after April 8.

This means that the first people to see the increase fully applied to their four-weekly payment will be those paid on Monday, May 6.

Payments made into accounts on any weekday from April 15 to 19 will have been calculated based on three weeks at the old rate and one week at the new rate. Payments made between April 22 to 26 will be split evenly, with two weeks at the old rate and two weeks at the new rate.

Finally, payments made from April 29 to May 3 will be based on one week at the old rate and three weeks at the new rate. After the start of the following week on May 6, the new rates will be applied in full to people's disability benefits.
