The 56-year-old famously left ITV's morning show after making controversial comments

Presenter and journalist Piers Morgan returned to breakfast TV yesterday as he was on the BBC Sunday Morning show reviewing the daily newspapers.

The star, 56, chatted to host, Sophie Raworth, on topics including the Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Downing Street parties, Prince Harry and the row over men’s tennis player Novak Djokovic, who courted controversy in Australia.

It comes as Mr Morgan prepares to host a new daily show on a separate TV channel, which will be broadcast in several countries and launches later this year, after he sensationally quit ITV Good Morning Britain.

So, what is Piers Morgan’s new TV show and why did he leave ITV Good Morning Britain? Here’s what we know.

Piers Morgan: What is the star’s new TV show?

Piers Morgan is set to be back as part of a new daily programme on the channel TalkTV, owned by Rupert Murdoch, which will air in the UK, US and in Australia.

The show is due to be big on ‘opinion, debate and interviews’ and is set to air later this year in the spring.

Teasing the programme on BBC Sunday Morning, Morgan told viewers: “I am launching a new global daily TV show for Rupert Murdoch’s news corporation in America, starting in the spring.

“It will air daily in the UK, daily in the US and in Australia as well so I will be a tri-continental irritant which is something I have been aspiring to be for quite some time.

“It's going to be opinion, debate, big interviews, so if you’ve missed me on morning TV, I’m sorry but I’ll be back very soon.”

Piers Morgan: Why did he leave ITV Good Morning Britain?

Piers Morgan sensationally quit ITV Good Morning Britain following a row over comments he made about the Duchess of Sussex after she was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey.

He told viewers of the breakfast programme that he did not ‘believe a word’ Meghan Markle had said on her mental health when she opened up about her struggles in the interview.

It led, the next day, to the star walking off set following a heated discussion with the show’s weather presenter, Alex Beresford.

Morgan’s comments later attracted a record 58,000 complaints to media regulator Ofcom.

But the host was cleared of any breach of the broadcasting code some time after, with the regular simply telling broadcaster ITV to take greater care when discussing the issue of mental illness.

When is TalkTV starting

A launch date for TalkTV has not yet been announced. However, the television channel is expected to begin broadcasting sometime in early 2022.

TalkTV is set to air on weeknights in the UK, US and Australia.
