Mauricio Pochettino is set to be axed as Paris Saint-Germain manager, with Zinedine Zidane and Antonio Conte the leading contenders to replace him.

The Argentine celebrated his first league title with four games to spare as PSG secured a 1-1 draw against Lens on Saturday night to become Ligue Un champions once again.

But it now looks certain he will depart the job, due to the club’s failure in the Champions League.

French outlet Le Parisien claims that three-time Champions League-winning manager Zidane is at the top of the club’s wishlist.

However, the former Real Madrid coach is understood to be keen on taking over the French national team after the 2022 World Cup.

That could be bad news for Tottenham, with their manager Conte also under serious consideration for the PSG job.

Conte has a year left on his Spurs contract and an early exit would be a disappointment for the club and its fans.

But it could even lead to Pochettino going the other way back to his former club Spurs.

Pochettino helped PSG take back the league title from Lille with ease this season, but that far from tells the full story during a campaign where much was expected from the French giants.

The Qatari-backed team saw an incredible 2021 summer transfer window that brought in Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi and Georginio Wijnaldum.

However, all of those names failed to live up to expectations, with PSG experiencing yet another Champions League humiliation by giving up a 2-0 lead against Madrid in the last 16.

Pochettino was reportedly in the running for the Manchester United vacancy which was later taken by Erik ten Hag, despite the claims the Argentine had been singled-out as Sir Alex Ferguson’s choice for the role.
