Flashback: When Scotland's Rangers met the All Whites in 1984 ...
In October 1984, New Zealand’s All Whites played Scottish club Rangers in a special fixture at Glasgow’s Ibrox Stadium.
For New Zealand, it was part of an eight-match tour to Fiji and the United Kingdom to prepare for the national team’s upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
For Rangers, the match was a chance to raise money for player Bill McKay (24) who was so badly injured he was prematurely forced to retire from the game.
Before the game, Rangers paraded the Scottish League Cup, won by their team in their previous fixture.
More than 5,500 spectators watched Rangers beat New Zealand 5-0.
The opening goal was scored by Scottish U-21 international Ally McCoist, who would get his full debut two years after facing New Zealand. He went on to win 61 caps, and was inducted into the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame.
The last goal of the match was scored by Socceroo Dave Mitchell, who played 27 internationals for Australia.
