When is Red Nose Day 2022 on TV? Date of Comic Relief BBC telethon, schedule, presenters, how to get involved
Comic Relief is returning to UK screens for its 36th year of bringing the funny and raising money.
The night of entertainment will take place on Red Nose Day, and fundraise for Comic Relief’s mission to create a just world, free from poverty.
This year’s red noses, which are plastic-free, feature a series of cartoonish wild animals, including a rare chameleon design.
An evening of comedy television will be broadcast live from MediaCity, Salford from 7pm on 18 March.
The telethon event will last three hours and viewers will be encouraged to pledge donations over the night.
You can look forward to a hearty mix of hilarious sketches, live performances and one-off comedy specials.
There will also be film features showing the positive impact Red Nose Day donations have made across the UK and the world.
You can watch Red Nose Day live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
Some of the UK’s best loved comic actors, sports personalities, and performers will be putting in an appearance over the course of the evening.
Stand up comic and star of shows Fresh Meat and Bad Education, and children’s film Clifford the Big Red Dog, Jack Whitehall, will feature in the night’s proceedings.
As will double act French and Saunders, Olympic swimmer Tom Daley, and Strictly Come Dancing winners Rose Ayling Ellis and Giovanni Pernice.
Comedy greats David Walliams and Matt Lucas, actor and funny man Guz Khan, and Repair Shop presenter Jay Blades will also put in appearances.
Sir Lenny Henry, who co-founded Comic Relief along with scriptwriter Richard Curtis will be returning as a presenter.
This will be Henry’s 11th time presenting the event, though he will have support from other big names.
Singer and TV personality Alesha Dixon, 10th Doctor, David Tennant, radio presenter Zoe Ball, and actor and comedian Paddy McGuinness will all pitch in with hosting duties over the night.
They have all had some experience presenting the show in years past, with Tennant having done so on four previous occasions.
While an official minute by minute schedule of programmes has not been released, some of the features to be aired during the telethon have been confirmed.
The Comic Opera will return, with six celebrities being pushed to their musical limits.
Matt Lucas and David Walliams will star in a revival of the cult show Rock Profile, which features a series of mock interviews and left our screens in 2009.
Other segments will see Kylie Minogue join the cast of Ghosts, Jack Whitehall try his hand at mini golf, and Sandi Tokvig host a QI special.
Comic Relief is the name of the charity set up by Curtis and Henry in 1985.
Red Nose Day is the telethon fundraising event which makes millions for the Comic Relief charity.
On Red Nose Day people across the country are encouraged to get involved with fun sponsored activities.
The first Red Nose Day telethon took place in 1988, and raised £15 million. The combined amount raised through all the Red Nose Day telethons is in excess of £900 million.
Last year, more than £55 million was raised for the charity.
Until 2021, Red Nose Day was held every other year, but now it will be held annually.
